Hannover visit

I am visiting Laser Zentrum Hannover.

“It is so quiet.” That’s the first impression I got when I arrived at Hannover from the crowdy and noisy Shanghai. Folks sat in street cafes under sunshine, no one was in a hurry.

“I should bring my family with me,” I thought.

In the following days, I can not help questioning my decision of moving back to China last year, although I know it is already a fact and my family adapts to the new life well. And there are pros and cons in either sides as I normally know.

I will live in Leibnizhaus for the next few months, which was the home of Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz, one of the last universal scholars and polymaths of the old Europe. He invented the infinitesimal calculus independently of Isaac Newton and had a keen interest in Chinese culture. Isn’t it cool? I encountered a fire alarm in the building already.

I will work on a laser project for gravitational wave detectors during the stay.

join SIOM

I joined SIOM (Shanghai Institute of Optics and fine Mechanics, Chinese Academy of Sciences) just now after a really long holiday, will continue developing new laser technologies for specific applications. I hope I can setup the lab quickly and get some results soon.

It is joyful, I find, to move back to a place close to hometown. I am being reminded of my childhood by the weather, folk’s accent, food and goods etc. It is the feel of Ye Luo Gui Gen (falling leaves settle on their roots), I guess.
